Purchased two of these and they are running on a synology based system. Plan to add more cameras eventually.

I have the cameras blocked from accessing the internet by my router so firmware updates do not happen.

I'm unclear if camera firmware is a "if it's not broke don't fix it" thing or whether there are reasons to update even if the system is working - i.e either security, or performance updates.

Appreciate any feedback!

Since your camera is not connected to the internet, the security updates are a moot point.

If the cameras meet your needs and you don't have a problem that the release notes says it fixes, stay on what you got.

Many of us run firmware older than that.

Unless you encounter a particular issue that a firmware update will fix then I personally don’t touch the firmware.

Having said that I did test most if not all of the updates for the 5442 as I wanted to fix the issue whereby if the cam is restarted it reenables substream1 and disabled substream2 and eventually settled on a version where this issue had been fixed.
