I have been reading this forum for a while now, but this my first post. I finally decided to install some cameras at home, and after doing quite a lot of reading and research I bought two EmpireTech IPC-T54IR-AS from the Amazon Loryta store. The cameras finally arrived today and i started to experiment with them and Frigate.

One thing I noticed is that when powered these cameras become quite hot... is this normal?
I have been powering them via PoE, just in case this makes any difference.

Yes it is very normal.

People have measured them over 140-160 degrees F.

It is basically a little computer in that little ball with no cooling system.

Say the camera averages 5 watts, it is basically a 5 watt heater.

Plenty of members here from Texas with these cams in operation outside in the Texas heat for years with no issue.

Here are some thermals I took of some of my cams. None of these had the IR on at the time.

Cameras can get quite toasty and sometimes I wonder if one could fry an egg on a camera directly exposed to sunlight on a hot summer day. They're already warm enough in the shade.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, however. I'd put it down as normal.

First of all thank you for the prompt and detailed feedback!

Yes, this is exactly how it feels :)

Indeed, I guess I didn't realize how hot a 5w heater can get. :)
And is reassuring to hear that even in the Texas summer heat this won't be an issue.

I will proceed with the installation.
