Just double checking I'm doing the best job I can. Where and how do you mount your IR?

I usually mount it slightly (like 10 to 15 cm) above the camera looking in the same direction (same angle) as the camera. I also point it downwards a bit depending on how far I want the IR-to reach.
The height I mount it, depends on how large the circular pattern of the IR-light needs to be. I try to light the entire scene. I.E. I avoid dark spots in the corners of the scene. So I mount it as high as required for lighting the entire scene and then zoom in a wee bit to get rid of the black corners in the picture (IR light makes a circle and the picture of a camera is rectangular as in 16:9 on most screens). Imaging drawing a circle in a rectangular. The circle will not fill the corners and that's why I cut them of by zooming in a bit on the camera. Mounting the IR it a bit higher will have the same effect obviously, however, too high will increasingly dim the scene the higher you go.

Hopefully this is a good approach:). Additions are always welcome.
