IVM4200 and recording to my PC (no NVR)

Hi, I'm still fairly new to IP cams and couldn't find an answer searching on my question so wondered if someone could tell me if it's possible to record the continuous output of my 2 ipcams onto my PC using HIkvisioniVM4200 or not?

. i have SD cards in both my ip cam and want to leave them dealing with motion detection each day but i would like to create a Continuous recording also, this would run in the background and my first thought was my PC that hosts iVM,4200 but I'm struggling to see how/if that is possible atm. I don't use an NVR or DV but hoped IVM4200 might be able to record a continuous stream that;'s independent of the cams that record just motion detection events to SD cards.

Does anyone familiar with IVM4200 know if this is possible?

thanks. Sean

The recording of the cams to the SD card is done within the camera GUI by opening up a browser and typing in the IP address of the camera.

It might be possible to set that up in IVM but most are going to go directly to the camera GUI.

Keep in mind many find that these cameras are not real good at continuous recording to SD cards. Some cameras are better than others, but if you start noticing glitching or reboots, it is probably because of the SD card recording.

And keep in mind you will probably only get like 24-36 hours of recording if that much, so it would require early detection on if something was to be concerned with.

These reasons are why most will go with an NVR.

Sure you have them already but for others that may read, Add the Cameras to iVMS-4200:

Launch iVMS-4200.
Go to Device Management and add your cameras using their IP addresses or through a search.

Configure the Recording Schedule:
1, Navigate to Remote Configuration for the camera.
2, Select Schedule Settings under Record Schedule.
3, Set the schedule type to Continuous.
4, Define the recording timeline (e.g., 24/7).

Enable Recording to Local or NVR Storage:
1, Ensure that the storage device (PC or NVR) is configured for recording.
2, Assign the cameras to use this storage under the Storage Settings.

Verify Recording:
Go to the Playback tab in iVMS-4200 to confirm the cameras are recording as scheduled.

To be honest I would look at buying Blue Iris for best results or get an NVR.. Faster and better.

thanks Witaj and Revo for both of your responses. I had a look at NAS info with the aim of recording to my pc but didn't come away from it feeling i'd grasped it though it looks possible for me maybe. I have several SS Hard Drives to use if i could make that happen. I know that each cam with it's SD card and it's choice of storage be it either motion detection or continuous can only be one or the other and i'm happy with the preformance of the cards over the last year but i'd hoped getting a 3rd recording on continious would hopefully be possible with ivm4200. as i'm not up for more hardware or cost for this small setup.

Using an small form pc that i already own to just run the ivm client and save video on would work for me if i can do that., I'll just have to get my head around the NAS aproach and creating volumes etc. With each cam currently recording motion events to their own SD card i am assuming that the iVM4200 client would actually let me record a continous stream from it so if that's a non starter please someone just shout and let me know. . thanks.
