Lens replacement/swap?

I bought two used DS-2CD2185FWD -I cameras.
One was an S model and the other wasn't
Connect up the -IS model to the NVR and the image isn't as crisp as it could be. Everything is out of focus.

Since I really wanted the IS model for the sound capability, I got busy and pulled the lens out of the non S model and swapped it into the S model.
Everything is now clear on the S model....

That got me thinking.
Where is the difference between a 4 MP camera and the 8 MP camera?
Is it in the lens or is it in the guts of the camera?

I have a DS-2CD2143GO-I that could donate it's eye if the 8MP capability is in the guts...

Anyone tear into these and start swapping parts?

Any way on "fixing" the blury lens?

Thanks,

By lens do you mean the glass in front or the actual lens behind it?

It is sensor size that determines what a good quality camera is.

A 2MP on the same sensor size as an 8MP will blow away the 8MP all night long.

Fixed lens cameras can be put into focus by breaking up the glue and a simple twist of the lens.

Thanks for the reply,

I have read about breaking the glue ad giving a twist but for the life of me can't figure out where this glue is or what else needs to be removed prior to chiseling at the glue? Help?

By lens, I'm referring to the entire assembly that is held by two screws, pivots, twists and has the pigtail that connects to the circuit board.

Right, got busy with a couple screw drivers....

Popped off the opaque bezel covering the IR LED's, removed two screws holding the (aluminum?) cover in place that hold the IR LED's,
This exposed the lens, chiseled out the glue and now the lens turns.

Really, the question is, how to focus this while everything is pulled apart....

Will think of something...
