Hi Guys, looking for some information which does not seem to be available in google searches.

I currently have a Hikvision NVR which works super well, but to view a custom grid for my cameras, I have to use IVMS running on a separate laptop which is annoying as hell. The live view custom grid feature seems to be too magic for Hikvision support and they cannot assist

The only layouts I have when viewing the NVR via it's HDMI port is 1x7, 2x2,3x3 and 4x4 equally split

Does anyone know of an NVR that has a decent live view interface that can be customized to an extent. I currently have 8 cameras and would like 4 large panes, with 4 smaller ones at the bottom.

I have Hikvision cameras but don't care what brand of NVR is suggested

And that is all Dahua NVR? That is exactly what I was looking for but no one could answer me, thank you so much.

I assume Dahua would support Hikvision through Onvif? I just need it for live view, nothing else

Yes, this is Dahua.. Dahua supports ONVIF cams...

Please remember that in case of Dahua NVR and HIK cameras connected over ONVIF you lose all features like Motion detection or AI events.. sometimes even sub streams..

Here video which shows what You can do with custom layouts..

ps. I found similar video for HIK NVR

Thank you sir, I really appreciate it. Ill have a look at those videos and order a Dahua, I don't mind losing those features, I run a separate Frigate instance that reports to Home assistant for AI detection and whatnot, this is just for live viewing

If you want order any NVR which will work as to 24/7 wall/tv/monitor display please always check in spec sheet what is decoding capability of that NVR... in case of ONVIF cams there is no sub stream which can be displayed in case of overdoing those limits...

older / lower lines of NVR have lower limits...

4 disks models of 5xxx-EI have dual HDMI, which can work with 2 monitors (both displaying different channels/cameras).

I appreciate the heads up, I have 8x 2MP cameras so definitely still within those limits quite comfortably. However I will see what is available here (South Africa) and definitely reference the specs

So I bought a DHI-NVR4108HS-4KS2/L NVR, it works perfectly, but I do not have the option to change any display options as per the video
Am I missing something like advanced settings or something?

it's very low Lite line...
I don't known does it support this feature.. You can try to do firmware update to latest one and check...

That's what I thought as well, updated to the latest firmware and didn't improve anything. The quality of this NVR is miles ahead of the Hikvision that I had, so will keep it, will just have to get used to he new layout I guess.

It sucks that they don't have the same features across their line. But hey, I have it now and not going to spend more money on just the live view for my cameras :D
