Hello everyone, I currently have a DS-2CD3120F-I 2mp dome camera installed on the 2nd floor that covers the front yard and sidewalk. The resolution is fine for seeing people coming in and out and recognizing faces but it fails when it comes to seeing text such as license plates on still cars which doesn't matter in this application. I would like to install a 2nd camera on the opposite corner of the house facing across to record cars passing by up to the corner of the block with is about 100ft away and be able to read plates if possible. The guy across the street has a nest camera that covers this exact view perfectly but at a pretty low resolution. I will attach a screenshot from their camera. If possible I would like to stay under $200 for the camera and POE is required. What camera would you recommend?

Additionally, I would like to install some sort of doorbell camera or anything I can used to see the face of someone at the door. I would prefer a wifi based for this specific application but i can run ethernet if needed. I would like to keep this one as cheap as possible.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Reading plates 100ft away is a hell of a challenge; your going to need a varifocal with big optics; gonna blow your budget out of the water..

Thanks for the info, 100ft might be a little bit of an exaggeration, but incase its not, what would be possible in that budget? I don't really need to read a plate when they're all the way down there. if they could be read while moving, they will pass in front of the house, if thats even realistic.

should be, especially with higher frame rate.

really going to depend on distances, a 4MP Varifocal to 12mm is good to about 45ft.. get me some real measurements and I'll suggest a cam

im pulling plates off vehicles in motion ~180ft; but once you get beyond around 35-45ft price goes up dramatically.
