Hello , My BI pc is struggling with 13 camera close to 100% I have been trying to get sub streams running but seems to be more difficult than expected. I have been reading and just too confused. I was thinking of switch my BI in to my plex server as I have plenty of space and extra drives. In the pictures attached are both pc's . Looking for input if this is a wise move or just more troublesome down the road with both running?

What are the cameras your running? if they are Dahua or their OEM's you could use that script below.

Substreams is just a pulldown and select the substream.

People run over 30 cameras on the 4th gen without an issue, so you have something else whacked out on your computer.

Post screenshots of your settings.

I am confused on the ankke, How can I tell if the Dahua is working on substreams? Does BI handle it all or do I have to change a setting in each cameras? I am running some older hikvision, amcest ,dahua, annke

Here is one of the older HIkbi3hikvision.JPG

stream = 0 string can be pasted into subtream line, then change the 0 to 1

For Dahau/Amcrest in the BI video setup, the substream string will be:
/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=1&unicast=true&proto=Onvif

For Hikvision/Annke:
/Streaming/channels/102

It's usually on by default, but go into the cams and check. Generally, it's to the right on the same video screen where you set the resolution.

In BI you can see if the substream is active on the General tab of the camera next to the image. Also in the camera list under the Status icon that looks like a chart with an arrow, under the Cameras tab.

you'd have to change it on each cam. you'll know it's working when the CPU %age drops, and when you select a single cam and "maximize" it from the menu, you can see it switch from sub to main just by the sharpness of the image.

Be certain that you perform each and every optimization that is listed HERE

See this for more info on substreams HERE
