Hello everyone,

We are currently working on our new home and would like to add cameras for the yard and front door area.

I don't need AI stuff. I just want a camera which performs well with night vision.

I'd prefer turret style.

I've been looking at the Unifi G5 Turret Ultra and the Reolink Cx820.

Seems the Unifi is rather on the low end. Can someone recommend some cameras? I have a budget of about 200€ per camera.

Thanks!

You think you don't need the AI stuff, until you do.

AI is a game changer if you want alerts that someone is on your property.

The cameras that all do well with night vision come with AI.

The two cameras you suggested are not on the ideal MP/sensor ratio so they will perform poorly in low light.

Keep in mind any camera calling itself full color or color night vision, etc. still need light - either the white light on the camera or enough ambient light. So for most it is better to get a camera with IR capability because if you do have enough light for color, you can force it in color. In many instances the only difference between the two cameras is one comes with IR and the other comes with white light, but the one with white light cannot see IR, so you cannot add it later.

Without knowing what your goals of the camera is, this thread is used as the go to for the new person here outlining the commonly recommended cameras (along with Amazon links) based on distance to IDENTIFY that represent the overall best value/best bang for the buck in terms of price and performance day and night. It might be a 2MP camera in some instances.

The Importance of Focal Length over MP in camera selection

And coupled with that thread is this great thread which will show why all of the same 2.8 or 3.6mm cameras is the wrong choice:

We would encourage you to look at those threads in detail.

It will probably raise more questions than answers LOL.

Thanks for the reply!

I will read through the thread. So basically the list with the cameras is up to date and considered good choices for the specific use case?

Yes, even though the thread is from 2022, I update the camera recommendation list based on camera feedback from reviews here (as recently as this week), along with my own experiences, and I have boxes of cameras that I have tried that just didn't perform the way I wanted LOL.

Unifi G5 Turret Ultra
To expensive for what you get. Need their eco system to make it work.
Poor Quality overall.

look at the links @wittaj sent

Learn up on DORI. Then think about where you would really need to IDENTIFY a perpetrator.

Example: 0-10' from your front door. OR last 10-15' of your driveway.

The Reolink Doorbell camera seems to be an exception. Reolinks are also an affordable option for 'overview' cameras - which purpose is to capture broad patterns of movement rather than identifying details.
