I know this has been talked about on here before but I have been unable to find it. Im looking to purchase some Poe cameras and nvr for my home surveillance and I was wanting to know what is a good camera and system to purchase without breaking the bank. I know you can spend as much as you want but trying to stay somewhat cost effective. I’m needing 4-6 cameras to start with and might expand to more cameras at a later date. Your expertise would be appreciated for this newbie. I was looking at reolink but I’m not sold on them.

Welcome!

Stay away from Reolink unless all you care about is what time something happened at night....maybe....

See this thread for the commonly recommended cameras (along with Amazon links) based on distance to IDENTIFY that represent the overall best value in terms of price and performance day and night.

The Importance of Focal Length over MP in camera selection

A trusted vendor here @EMPIRETECANDY with a website, Amazon store, and via DM has a sale going on soon.

He also has packaged NVR/camera combos.

X2 on everything @wittaj said above with the exception of the Reolink POE doorbell cams, those are good but everything else I'd get from Empiretech (Black Friday sale soon!)

If you buy Dahua equipment from Andy (most all of his items in the store are Dahua) then you use the DMSS app. No need for BI if you use an NVR.

No. The Blue Iris software sits on a PC running Windows.
I'm not a fan of the mobile App used by NVR's ( DMSS) DMSS - Apps on Google Play
So I use Blue iris.
I think everybody should try both. Use them for 6 months and see the Pros/Cons of each.
if your New ( which it sounds like you are) and your looking for an easy solution you need to gather more information before you waste money on something that underperforms for you.

Andy is the member I posted a link to his upcoming sale in Post #2.

The most recommended advice is buy one camera, say the 54IR-ZE and play with it first. Learn about the the camera. The DMSS app can be used to view the camera whether you have the NVR or not.

Then BI has a 14 day demo, so load it up on a Windows computer and play with it.

Then decide which you like better. If it is DMSS and camera GUI, then go with the NVR. If not, then go with BI.
