Hello, I bought a few IPC-HDW5231R-Z from Andy about 6 years ago and was very happy with them. I’m looking to add a few more cameras and have been reading about the newer options. I found this post which had some good info, but still a few years old. That being said, I am looking for recommendations on 3 cameras, best value for the cost, low light performance is important.

  1. What is the current best varifocal turret? (would that be IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3?
  2. Fixed lens turret? (IPC-T54IR-AS?)
  3. And finally sub $500 PTZ with auto tracking? (looking at PTZ425DB-AT)
Any thoughts are appreciated!

Those are the best meeting that criteria.

The 5442 (54IR) series is still the best overall camera in terms of price and performance day and night and is the most commonly recommended camera.

The PTZ is known for its smaller profile, but it isn't as good as a performer at night, but you would have to go to the $800 PTZ to see improvement.

Yes that would be the next one. I would highly recommend it if you have the money.

The other PTZ (mini-PTZ) certainly has a place, but I would only recommend it if low light wasn't an issue and/or the smaller form factor was a requirement.
