Lorex cam goes off momentarily

I’m using Lorex nvr N864A64 and E892AB cameras. Two of the cameras go off for about 5 seconds at different times of a day - roughly twice a day. When the camera switches off, LOREX comes up in the slot as if no camera is connected. And then the camera comes back on itself.

The daily temperature here varies between 50’s and 80’s. Do you think something is wrong with the connection? Or is it normal for cameras to take a quick break?

If you're using the cables supplied in a kit from Lorex, the CAT cables could be CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum) instead of pure copper which is not recommended, especially if the cameras are POE.

You might have intermittant mechanical connections on the male RJ-45 connectors on the CAT cables at the back of the NVR which break and make with temp changes or nearby vibrations.

Even more likely, you could be getting corrosion on the RJ-45 connection at the camera's pigtail. You might need to check those, clean them with De-Oxit and squirt dielectric grease into the male-female connections.

If it all improves after a test period, follow this procedure to weatherproof the connections better.

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the reply. I use CAT6 shielded cables for my system. It's a large house. Cables are more than 100 feet long. One runs > 300 feet. There is no corrosion on RJ45s. I use junction boxes and the jumper joints stay within the junction boxes. I also used the caps over the RJ45 connections that came with cameras. I use a patch panel with proper grounding. So far I have seen 4 out of 6 cameras going out momentarily and coming back on. But i didn't experience this issue with the older NVR. I am wondering if something is wrong with the NVR? I'm thinkin it's the issue you mentioned above. Temperature-wise, it's not too hot. The peek weather stays in mid 80's. Should I get worried about the NVR?

Maybe the POE switch built-into the NVR is failing...
Do you have or can borrow a POE switch for at least those 2 cameras?
