Greetings,

I just bought a Lorex model B451AJDB-E 2K QHD Video Doorbell and I'm having problems getting it set up. Our house does not have an existing doorbell chime so I got the chime setup from Lorex as well. I've installed the doorbell, and the wiring for the power supply (it's a 24VAC 500mA supply), and the chime box, and I've installed the Lorex app on my phone - a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL. Then comes the problem: I open the app to add the doorbell and get as far as where it says to connect to the doorbell's hotspot - it tries, very quickly, to connect to the hotspot but immediately returns to connecting to my home wifi. It will not connect to the doorbell's hotspot.

I tried calling Lorex support but they couldn't help. They suggested doing a reset on the doorbell, which didn't do anything, and they tried several other things on their end - they had me retry connecting about 20 times to no avail. I'm getting frustrated!

Does anybody have any tips on what might be the problem? Thanks in advance for help!

The problem is the doorbell won't connect to the app - I open the app and select "Add New Device". It tells me to scan the QR code for the doorbell and then it says it found the device, and displays the device ID. Then it tries to connect and fails. The app then displays a page: "Connect to Device Hotspot - Go to your mobile device's Wi-Fi Settings and connect to the Lorex device hotspot: B451AJ-XXX. Then return to app." So, I go to my phone's WiFi settings screen and select the doorbell - it disconnects from my home WiFi and tries to connect to the doorbell, but fails. So the phone then reconnects to my home WiFi. No matter what I do I can't get it to connect to the doorbell.

Sounds like your phone tries to automatically switch back to your home wifi when it detects no internet connection when connected to the device wifi.
Have you tired to disable automatically reconnect to your home wifi?

Yeah, I've tried shutting off the automatic connect, I've tried turning off my router, everything. The folks at Lorex finally got back to me - they asked for a photo of my DVM reading the output of my power supply (24V AC) and then asked for my name, address, model number, invoice number, and a photo showing the device number. I sent all that a while ago - I have a feeling they'll be replacing it: I don't think the wifi hotspot is working in the device.

Yeah, Lorex will claim they have not tested your transformer, thus claim it's not compatible. Maybe temporarily use the USB power to rule out the transformer as a contributor.

Also, if you do use a transformer not connected through an existing mechanical or electronic chime and the chime kit, when you set up the doorbell make sure to not pick either of those options during setup. Otherwise, when you press the doorbell button it will blow the non-replaceable surface mount fuse inside the unit. Don't ask how I know.
