Grabbed this screen cap. Gives a pretty good idea how good they can be.

Wow! Hikvision might not be my favourite anymore but this shows how good they are compared to the 420TVL and 960H stuff people are still peddling.

Yep, Dahua or the next decent solution I can find (doesn't include having to conduct a solution from a combination of Longse, duct tape, random NVR and pixie dust).

Got to do a new install for my other sister so I'll post results but need to make it as friendly as either Hikvision or Dahua as she is not a techy.

Why Dahua over Hik?
1) Most important! No horrible Hikvision attitude
2) Better ONVIF support
3) I actually prefer some of their cameras (HDW-4300C for example is much better IMHO than DS-2CD2332-I or DS-2CD2342WD-I)
4) Quieter NVR!
5) No firmware bricking camera issues
6) I think Dahua app is just as good as Hikvision app for mobile

So I'm voting with my feet and my money, not sure what plan is yet. Might be a Dahua / other make combo.

In the meantime I'll still recommend Hikvision (mainly from AE) for newbs as it's still better than complete junk and I'll still help those who brick their cameras when Hikvision won't.

Dahua is indeed better then Hikvision as mentioned above, but both have the same budget cams that are equally bad at night.

Not junk, just I don't want to give them my money. Cameras are above average, NVR + Camera solution is good. For newbs much better than Sricam junk for example or Foscam/Foscrap.
