My system is up and running with an i5-7500. I was wondering, if an i5-6500T(35W) CPU would work, or not? To save power and I have the CPU already.

Your i5-7500 is 65w MAX. It isn't consuming that much unless it's running 100%. The i5-6500T would end up running at a higher CPU % due to the much lower speed, and consume close to the 35w.

You won't save anything noticeable.

I recon the T CPU will be too under powered.
Ignore CPU usage that is a terrible meaningless metric. Look if you look at the core speed, you will likely find your current CPU is running a low clock speed, so using no where near max power usage.
Whereas your T will likely have to boost.
