Mixing camera brands?

I have a couple old AXIS cameras and I'm going to replace them with some Hikvision models. The plan is to run all Hikvision eventually. However, I keep hearing that the outdoor Dahua Starlight models are better than the equivalent Hikvision cameras. I'd like to stick with one brand, but I'm not married to it.

Is there any downside to mixing brands? My plan is to use Blue Iris so I believe that abstracts the in-camera capabilities a bit, yes? I'm not sure if the onboard motion detection is something I can use anyway.

So if I went with a mix of Hikvision, Dahua and others, with Blue Iris as my NVR, will I even notice or care about their differences once streaming is setup?

Not likely.

OK thanks everyone. Any particular reason to buy a Hikvision turret for relative darkness over a Dahua? Or is that the way to go?
