Hi guys,
I'm planning a new install after finally getting sick of my current poor setup and I'm in need of your advice. Having read a number of post here and elsewhere, I'm strongly leaning towards a set of three Dahua cameras hooked into Frigate and subsequently my existing Home Assistant instance.
A picture paints a thousand words so I've knocked together the below to show you want I'm dealing with - hopefully a fairly easy camera selection! The three camera positions are marked #1, #2, #3 in magenta, with the rough ideal field of view shown as magenta lines next to cameras #1 & #2. These two cameras will be used to monitor where we park our cars (driveway) and the shared driveway. Ambient light comes from a street light directly opposite the house on the other side of the road - there is a tree in the way though. There is also a bit of light coming from up-down wall lights either side of the front door, although this is fairly minor.
Camera #1 - Outdoor - 4 metres above ground level secured to the soffit. With it being this high, I'm not really expecting it to be able to identify people due to the angles involved, although it would still be good to see who they were if they decided to look up.
Camera #2 - Outdoor - 2.4m high - Must be able to identify people from approx 8m away but still then give good identifiable images down to around 1 -> 1.5 metres. Is this realistic though? Ideally it would cover the width of the driveway (7.5m) from a couple of metres away.
Camera #3 - Indoor - 2m high - Used within an tiny enclosed, weather-proofed porch so safe to treat it as an indoor camera. Its purpose is to cover the front door and keep an eye on any packages delivered, so must be identifiable again. Anyone entering the porch will be fairly close to the camera - 1.1 metres and less - so it must be able to focus this close. Lighting shouldn't be too much of a problem as I could get the bright porch lights to auto-on if any movement is detected (either by door sensors, PIR, or movement detected via the camera & Frigate).
So, what would you recommend for each of the three cameras? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help!
Stuart
