I deployed my first ever camera setup in September. I swam around in the insulation running the wires all nice, it was not so fun.
The end result I am happy with, so I wanted to share it here and ask for some lighting suggestions.
There are 4 cameras on the outside of the building.
The cameras are:
DS-2CD2385FWD-I - 4mm
DS-2CD2185FWD-IS - 4mm
DS-2DE3304W-DE - PTZ
I am attaching a day/night photo from every camera.
Camera A & B are the DS-2CD2385FWD-I is an 8 MP camera with night vision that claims to toss a light about 30 meters. This camera was low cost and well worth it.
The DS-2DE3304W-DE is a PTZ @ 3 MP. It has no infrared of its own. The PTZ aspect is certainly a nice to have.
Camera D is DS-2CD2185FWD-IS, which is another 8 MP camera. It is a fixed dome camera with 30m infrared. You can see at night there is some haze on the left side of the photo at night. I have not been so impressed with this camera and would not buy it again.
In the few weeks I have had this system up and running I have learned a few things that others already knew but I am having to learn on my own.
1) Some insects can see infrared and are attracted
2) Spiders like insects, they are tasty
3) Spiders build their webs were the bugs are
So this is were I am looking for input from others regarding lighting. I am planning to add an additional 3 cameras to the building (the NVR I have maxes out at 8 and there is one inside the building already as well).
I plan to add two Darkfighter cameras (DS-2CD2345FWD-I) to the front of the building. Replacing camera C & D. So there will be no infrared lights on the front of the building, I hope the existing white light in the parking area will be enough for the Darkfighter to do its magic.
I plan to disable the IR lights on cameras A & B. While I am happy with the light they produce at night, I can't be getting out a 20ft ladder all the time to clean off the spiders.
Does anyone have suggestions for lighting. I would need to light the front and back yards. The front yard is about 11 meters (36 ft) from the building to the sidewalk.
The back yard is about 22 meters (72 ft) to the back fence.
Ideally a high quality light that is powered by PoE, I already have a PoE switch setup so I just need to run the cables to power them.
Any feedback on lights or alterations I should be making to the camera setup would be much appreciated.
