I know many of you use and recommend the IPVM Camera Calculator. We appreciate it and wanted to share with you the new version of the calculator, explain what is new and take requests for improvements.

In terms of features you likely care about, we have added Night IR and super low light previews in addition to the previous night / dark mode, as shown in the example below:
night-super-demo.gif

This reflects that most cameras have integrated IR and increasingly many cameras have 'super low light' capabilities. In addition, any model that has integrated IR, we now intelligently show the integrated IR preview as long as it is within the camera's integrated IR range (e.g., 30m or 50m, etc.).

Also, PTZs now are displayed better, showing both the selected AoV and the potential 360 coverage area, as shown below:
ptz-demo.gif

The layout has been changed, giving a larger map and placing all controls on the right hand.
The calculator also should work better on tablets and larger mobile phones. And this new architecture was built for upcoming migration to iOS and Android Apps.

Finally, the Calculator should load quicker, be more responsive and we can now focus on adding new features to it.

Any requests, questions, complaints, let me know.

Thanks @looney2ns

Btw, one other thing, an IPCamTalk member mentioned how to find the link to our video tutorial. In the new version, with that in mind, we made it easier to watch the tutorial by embedding it on the right hand side when starting up as shown below:

Again, any questions, complaints, recommendations, let us know.

New version of the IPVM Camera Calculator V3 is released..

IPCamTalk members may benefit from 2 of the specific additions:
(1) Advanced Searching / Filtering - now pick cameras based on specific resolution range desired (e.g., 4MP - 6MP), form factors (e.g., only PTZs or bullets and domes), IR range (e.g., at least 30m) and AoV (e.g., 90°+ or <20°). This will let you quickly discover and select the right camera for your application. Gif below demonstrates how it works:

(2) Submit models missing from the Calculator right from the camera selection modal. If a model name/number is not found, we immediately display a link and message to send to us. Within 1 business day, those camera model(s) will be added. The workflow below shows this:

Both are free features. Any feedback, questions or comments, please let us know.

@bp2008 thanks! This has been fixed. The issue was that we were including cameras without integrated lenses that theoretically could be used with add-on lenses. Now, we've excluded those cameras.

Heya @john-ipvm

Just got a subscription to your site as I plan out my cameras. Really terrific app!!

I can't seem to find these two Dahua cameras... I wanted to use these in the calculator due to the different fov and IR distances, zoom, etc. and seem to be very popular cameras to talk about on this forum.

IPC-HFW5231E-Z5

Any plans to add?

Ah yea.. so I see in your above screenshot (didn't read that far before) you have a way to request... I'll go ahead and do that.

@Revlus thanks for becoming a member and thanks for the request. I also see you used our new submission feature so we got it there as well. These cameras will be added on Monday and we'll update here when done. Anything else we can do to help, just let us know.

@Revlus those 2 cameras are now added. We are at 5,622 models in the Calculator and climbing. Any others to add, let us know.

Thank you, John! The calculator is awesome!

One weird thing I have noticed is when I try to use it it for my IPC-HF8835F. Since there is no 4/3 imager, I just use 35mm and adapt the focal length based on the crop factor. What I noticed though, the shown ppf is different depending on whether I change the distance field or focal length last, even though the values are still the same. I.e. set resolution to 4K, imager to 35mm. Now change distance to 30ft and focal length to 24mm. Notice how the ppf is 42.8. Now edit the distance field, and re-enter 30 and now the ppf is suddenly 85.6.

@cb8 , we are going to add the HF8835F to the database so you can do that directly and accurately with the correct imager size. I will report back tomorrow and then we can look at the ppf issue.

Note, you can save yourself time by immediately submitting it using the built-in camera submit function. There is a person on our team who focuses on getting any cameras requested by the next business day and also directly answering support questions, who is better than me at it.

I’ll be submitting a RFE to always display the text for adding a new camera in the results pane. It currently only shows when no results come up, but if I search on 5321 some results show, and then I can’t submit for the ones that are missing.
