Have a look, and a rather long read, in the WiKi in the blue bar at the top of the page. Tons of information on everything video surveillance and related areas. The camera information is a little out of date, the latest and greatest is the Dahua 5442 series and the Hikvision Darkfighter series, but the principles remain the same.
