I want to install a camera into my pool house (a wooden shed) so that I can remotely monitor the dosing instruments in there, previously we had PTZ Fosscam some 4 years ago but it refuses to connect to the network anymore, when running it was only moderately successful reading the LCD displays on 2 of the dosing pumps. I have recently fitted a Nest IQ camera and it's useless the displays are just bright yellow fuzzy blobs, and not ideal as I can't pan or zoom. So I'm after some advice on what to replace them with, the shed will normally be shut but it has a north facing window for natural light. I need a camera that will zoom into the displays and cope with reading them, distance is around 1.5 to 2m, and be easy to install the Foscam was a pig requiring me to log into the router and change settings which I didn't understand. It would be useful if I could power it on & off like the nest so as not to unnecessarily use up the broadband as I only need to view once or twice a day. What do you think?

I followed your links and am learning some of the jargon, I only have a Mac so don't think Blue Iris is for me! can anyone suggest something decent for a Mac?
I've been reading reviews on cameras and the links provided, but I'm in the UK so can't use your shop.
I've uploaded 2 shots so you can see the issue.
Im thinking that I need a PTZ with a decent optical zoom, possible cameras are:-

1. Dahua IPC-HDBW4433R-ZS on amazon uk for £112
but am concerned by comments on it being difficult to install! eg "Frankly it's always the same thing at dahua!! Can't detect my cam!! Yet this is the 3rd I put on my dahua nvr! Already the first it was misery but there... I advise against this brand for newcomers!!!"

2. Dahua IPC-HDW2231RP-ZS 223 euros
Again am worried that they are for pro users?

3. SA-ARN50W1348 £195 ANRAN outdoor indoor IP PTZ camera equipped with a 5MP 4.7-90mm varifocals lens,support 20X optical zoom
The reviews are positive on it being easy to set up etc and it has a more powerful zoom that maybe is what I need?

I'm thinking the Anran one, Your opinions would be welcome as I don't want to buy another junk camera.

I don't have a shop.
The comments are because the buyer is uneducated in buying the proper equipment.
If you had studied the links I provided, you would have all your answers, including how to purchase in the UK.
You WILL have to learn some setup with any decent camera you purchase.
The 4433 you mention is a Dahua camera that is intended for the chinese market. It has hacked to english firmware, that can't be updated. Avoid.
It also will not work with current Dahua NVR's.
If you purchase legitiment International models of Dahua's, you won't have those issue's.
Again, STUDY the links provided in the PDF I shared on a real computer, not on a cell phone.

Can you not get a network cable to the pool house or is it too remote, are these/this the only camera you have, it should not be difficult to set something up for you to see the displays, some degree of knowledge would be needed but plenty of info on here.

Its too far from the house to run a network cable, and yes it is the only camera I will have. The Wifi signal is good in the shed, I need to view it once a day to check that all is well with the pool equipment. It would seem I've stumbled on a forum more geared to complex pro end setups, I feel a bit chastised by the previous comments, the nest camera is expensive for what it is and no doubt junk by pro standards, but its aimed at a different market (which i'm in) as a complete novice (me) can get it up & running in minutes. I was just hoping someone would say you need an xyz PTZ eg more zoom the better/enough pixels to see clearly etc so that the camera would cope with the displays. The Anran seems to have these features and be straight forward to set up (based on Amazon reviews!!), am I at least on the right path?

Hi yes, the nest is a good camera but these do have there own market, i know what you mean with the Anran, but i personally think it may be a bit overkill for what you need, there are plenty of other cams out there which would be a lot cheaper but still have the desired effect.

There are a few Dahua cams that could foot the bill that are WIFI. While everyone here will tell you not to use WIFI for security cams, your situation is not security.

https://www.amazon.com/Dahua-SD22204T-GN-W-Motorized-2-7mm-11mm-2-Megapixel/dp/B07DWP25X1

https://www.amazon.com/EmpireTech-SD1A203T-GN-W-Starlight-Network-English/dp/B07CWKX82G

Not saying you should buy from these links. But these links show you two cams that might be for you. You may be able to find them locally or you could ask @EMPIRETECANDY for price and availability. He ships to the UK and several UK members have bought from him. Just send him a message on here.

You would need to get a power supply. You would log in to the cam via a web browser to set up, pan-tilt-zoom, and view. You would also need to make sure that cam does not have access to the internet. It may mean setting up a separate WIFI sub-net for the cam.

I actually have the hard wired version of the SD1A203T-GN-W. The only concern I have is that picking up your LCD displays, which are lit, may be an issue.

The picture below is from that cam and the LCD display is 2 meters away. The cam is zoomed all the way in. The other cam, SD22204T-GN-W will get you a little closer.

As an Amazon Associate IPCamTalk earns from qualifying purchases.
SD1A203T-GN Best for low light
SD22204UE-GN No IR, can work great if has light there in the night.
SD1A404XB-GNR Good for normal light and good light in the night.

These 3 are good to go if prefer ptz

I take it the pool house is wired from your home house via armoured cable?, have you tried home plugs? I can help you with some cheap prices for your camera's at trade prices here in UK which will come with a Full 3year UK warranty with a guaranteed next working day delivery.

Good idea, this is worth a try, will open up more cams and far better reliability.
