No video on 2 cameras on main live view screen

Hi all, 2 channels do not show a video feed on the main camera screen while viewing on the monitor, but do show video on remote viewing app. Those 2 channels will show video on the monitor when they are individually selected, it only affects the multi-channel view screen on the monitor output. It's not a huge deal as those are LPR cameras, but it would be nice to view them while the monitor is on.

The NVR in question is a LOREX N882b63b model and all but the two cameras that have live feed issues on monitor out are also Lorex branded. Any thoughts?

Could it be a max resource has been reached? It can be a pain but look to see all channels in the grid mod is using sub channel? Does it say anything? I have on recorder that does this because it tries to load to many channels in main where my higher end one adds all in sub and no errors even adding larger grid view? At top of each window should show what channel M or S was used?

I couldn't say if the max resource has been reached. This setup was originally 9 cameras until last year. All 9 cameras would show on the 9-channel screen setting with that setup. All those cameras were Lorex branded cameras. I added 2 more Lorex cameras mid 2024 and all 11 would show in the 16-channel view. When I added the Empire Tech LPR cameras that's when the video issues began. First one I added (channel 12) was done in September 2024 and it had no video on the 16-channel view. The second LPR camera (channel 13) also had no video on the 16-channel screen. However, I recently added a Lorex Speed PTZ to the system (as it was new in the box older inventory I got at a GREAT price) and it shows on the 16-channel screen (channel 14)

Now, if I switch to a 4-channel view and go through the groups 4 channels at a time, the LPR cameras DO show up. If I switch to 9 channel or 16 channel view, they do NOT show video on those screens. And I've had 11 cameras show on the 16-channel view albeit they were all Lorex branded

At the top of each window if you move your mouse to the top don't show some options one being what channel type is loaded in that window? If it does try to change to other option? Also not sure this is the issue but can you log in cameras webui and confirm that sub channel is enabled there are some cameras that needed it to be checked to enable. Most times 4 grid view is main channel setup but if 8 or 9 plus is used then channels should load in Sub. Again one or 2 of mine don't so I have to force the blank screen ones into sub to view all channels

Sub streams for both channels are active. See photos:

I don't believe it is a sub stream issue as I can see these 2 channels in the 16-channel view in Lorex Cloud app both on laptop and mobile. It's just an issue on the HDMI out of the NVR is where I have the issue

For some reason I cannot find the tech spec on that NVR, but the NVRs are limited into the MP they can send thru the HDMI cable.

For kicks drop the resolution on one of those not showing down to the lowest quality and see if it shows. If it doesn't then unplug one of the cameras that does show and see if the camera then shows up.

If it does, then you know you are exceeding the capacity of the NVR HDMI output.

Ok, dropped both of the IPC-B52IR-Z12EB-S2 cameras down to lowest resolution of 720 and no difference. Unplugged one of the cameras that do show up and no change.

I will say that this Lorex NVR is 32 channel capable, so I think it is unlikely that we are reaching the max limit with 13 or 14 cameras. And 4 of the cameras have dedicated power supplies so only 10 of them are using POE from the NVR.

There is indeed a limit it can display via HDMI regardless of the number of cameras the NVR is capable of.

Here is an example from a high end Dahua 32 camera NVR (Dahua made Lorex):

As you can see, if you had five 12MP cameras running at 30FPS, that is all the HDMI can put out.

If you happen to have all 4MP cameras, it will only display 12 of them, etc.

With that said, I have seen this issue with my neighbors Lorex NVR trying to add an Empiretech Z12E. It is almost like Lorex is blocking non-Lorex cams.

If I remember right, I think we manually added it as a ONVIF capable camera instead of letting the NVR auto find it.

I believe that there is a limit to the HDMI, but I don't believe this is the case here as I can display all 12 of the Lorex branded cameras without issue. Not to mention that the multi camera channel screens are the collection of all camera sub streams, not main streams. A much lower resolution and frame rate in this instance.

It's only adding the Z12E's that give me the trouble. So, I think this is the Lorex NVR blocking the non Lorex cameras as you mentioned.

If you can remember, what is the procedure for adding cameras as an ONVIF capable camera on Lorex NVRs? Thanks

Update!

I deleted the two Z12E cameras and reconnected them via Onvif protocol instead of "Private" which they default to when adding them. All cameras now show up on the monitor. Thanks for the tip regarding the Onvif protocol, I'm a happy camper now!

Just be aware that I had to do this directly from the menu screen of the NVR on the monitor, it would not work via web interface.

Interesting and will keep that in my mind for future issues if they come about.. I have my Z12E S connected using Private on my Amcrest NVR. I know they are not same but are both OEM Dahua so shouldn't be to much difference between.. However my 32ch is older model and maybe that is why it is working as I have the older Z12E S so yeah very old lol. My old NVR is the 5232E-16P 2018 model year..

My NVR has a build date of 2020. From what I understand, Lorex is anal about keeping all equipment Lorex branded. Obviously, the NVR I am using is Ovif capable, but you really have to dig to find that out. My guess is that it reduces support issues, and they get more cash when the whole system is Lorex. JMHO

Yeah understand.. I know they have some funky hardware back in the day when they were owned by Dahua.. I think it was 2021 Dahua has since sold the company to Japan based company so I wonder if they changed hardware OEM contract or if they area still Dahua OEM? I mean I have a couple of their 2k doorbells and a 2k Amcrest doorbell that looking at the 2 side by side and at first glance taking the back off they look the same.. Yet Lorex has some circuits missing in the design that makes it less likeable then the Amcrest one.. But for a new person that hasn't had or know much about DVR/NVR and or IP cameras they would be happy with either.. For me the missing features makes Amcrest the winning camera.. I mean the Lorex works on my Dahua hardware so that make it ok but for other branded recorders not so much.

Also think that was one of the reasons they added in the 32gb Micro SD into the sale of the camera because it was lacking the extras that others might want lol. Just a guess.. I got both of the ones I own as dead from a different forum and offered to pay for both what it would cost for one knowing I could fix them. Yet didn't know he had one Firmware blocked because it was replaced and they Blocked the SN. So scanning the QR comes up with device not found it has been repaired and does turn on just no way to get it to start up seeing it is Smart Home Product requires activation to add to wifi.. Oh well. I have back up camera for parts when and if I need them for one of my many others in the line lol..

Eventually, I will upgrade to a newer, more feature rich NVR, but I want to get the cameras upgraded first as the Lorex ones aren't that great. I'm just glad I was able to solve the multi camera view issue so that I can continue replacing the cameras.
