Numerous rain alerts... any fix for it?

I searched for this and found a few threads, but nothing I've done has worked. I still get hundreds of alerts during a rainy day.

It's mainly with my camera that I have Animals selected in IVS (deer feeder camera)... IPC-B54IR-ZE-S3. The other cameras are not so bad.

I viewed this post, but it's a couple of years old and I don't see a "Cameras digital input" box in BI... if that still matters. I use IVS in AI, then Get ONVIF triggers, and no motion checked in BI, but this has not helped, particularly at night.

Go into the camera and set up smart plan with IVS, then go to the IVS screen and draw IVS rules (tripwire or intrusion box) and then select the AI you want it to trigger on (human or vehicle).

Then in BI, there are a few places you need to set this up in BI (assuming you already set up the IVS rules in the camera GUI):

  • In Camera configure setting check the box "Get ONVIF triggers".
  • Hit Find/Inspect on the camera setting to pull the coding for the triggers.
  • Go into Motion Setting and select the "Cameras digital input" box.
  • On the Alerts tab uncheck the Motions Zones tab (those are alerting you to any BI motion in those areas in Zones A thru H)
  • On the alerts tab set up how to be notified.

Any other ideas?

That was the usual easy one.

What does the log in BI show when the alerts happen? Should show something similar to below with an indication of what type of trigger/rule caused the alert:

12/28/2024 10:27:29.591 AM FrontDoor ONVIF Event: RuleEngine/FieldDetector/ObjectsInside (IsInside="true")

BI has changed the name with updates, so it could be "Cameras digital input" or "external" or "ONVIF".

Which browser are you using?

We saw someone hear recently that was having the same issue and low and behold when we convinced them to use Internet Explorer it showed that MD was checked on even though other browsers showed off like your image above.

Post BI motion setting screenshots.

I'm not sure. My log only goes back to 2:35am and this was all happening around 1am. I did not notice I could save the log until now. It's supposed to rain here again today/tonight, so I can look at it later and see.

Yeah... I use IE for direct access to all my cameras.

Here are my settings:

Well dang that looks right.

Is there another profile that it changes to during the night?

Is there an SD card in the camera that you can playback with event with the IVS rules on to see what triggered it?

Post a sample video of the event.

I have it on the day/night switch, so it goes to BW and IR at night.

Here's a shot of it what it looked like when I was getting all the alerts.

Here is when it's clear and before the rain, although just after dark.

Do you have an SD card in the camera to confirm it is IVS triggering?

Some have made a little canopy to put over the camera, but I have one exposed to the elements that looks like your image and doesn't trigger for similar looking image.

Have you tried the global config?

Basically you take an object of a known length - like 4 feet or something and you set it up at different points in the field of view and then "measure" it and input in the number and it helps to "calibrate" the camera for your field of view.

It helps with eliminating false triggers on tricky field of views or ones that see a big area like yours.

I don't know how well it will solve the rain, but it may.

I have two observations to offer.
1. For no good reason that I can think of, BI enables dumb motion detection on the camera. If you shut it off on the camera GUI, BI will turn it right back on. To get rid of this nuisance, in the camera's GUI, totally wipe out the motion detection coverage area, set the sensitivity all the way down, and the threshold all the way up.

2. If the rain problem is mainly at night, going to an external IR illuminator a bit away from the camera will help a lot. When using the camera's IR, the raindrops reflect it straight back into the camera. Same situation with snow and bugs.
