Hello All,

I have a Reolink RLC-823S2 16X zoom camera. It has 16x optical zoom. I'm looking for a inexpensive or even better free - software that can take advantage of the zoom and auto zoom when motion / activity is detected.
I currently have Blue Iris and the author says he uses the '3d zoom' feature - where you basically 'draw' where to zoom to, but reolink doesn't make the API available so it doesn't auto zoom.

Any suggestions? Windows or Linux.

Thanks :)

It is best to buy a camera that has auto tracking built in.

BI can do it kinda, but native to the camera will be the best option.

Or you use fixed cams to use as spotter cams to move a PTZ to different presets and zooms.

I mean it's a not at all unreasonable feature. Hopefully I can figure it out - How would I do it in BI? The author of BI said it won't do it.
Any suggestions on ones with a decent zoom that will auto zoom / track?

I haven't done it, but BI revision 5.9.8 added the ability to have BI kinda do some tracking. Look in the help file for more info.

5.9.8 - September 18, 2024

Direct PTZ positioning (via click an
d drag) has been revised to operate more like the UI3 browser interface.
Revisions have been made to the PTZ tab in camera settings, including a new button for
beta auto-tracking configuration. We welcome your feedback on this feature as it matures.
Revisions have been made to the Trigger tab in camera settings, including the placement of a
new button for continuous AI analysis as a trigger source. Previously, this very powerful
feature was buried as part of the alert confirmation’s Static Object Analysis configuration.
The AI trigger source is represented in the database as well as for action set filters.
Revisions have been made to the Alert/AI configuration, including the removal of our
integration with Sentry for AI, which has been deprecated in favor of CodeProject (or still
DeepStack) for a couple of years.

So the BI author stated he can't auto zoom on my camera since the API isn't available.

Looking at those cameras - and others I've seen - the Reolink WILL auto track - just tracking in terms of pan/tilt. I'm looking at cameras with auto tracking and they don't specifically say they auto zoom, just auto track?
