Getting the hang of it

I currently have a HikVision DS-7616NI-E2 NVR hooked up to a mix of 13 HV DS-2CD2xxxx 3MP and 4 MP cameras. I recently purchased a Eufy E340 floodlight camera and have been impressed that it only triggers a motion recording event when a vehicle or person is detected unlike my NVR that records whenever a shadow moves or a bug flies in front of a camera.

Would a newer HV NVR solve this and only trigger a motion recording if a vehicle, animal, or person is detected? Maybe something like the DS-7616NXI-K1? Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks.

It is best to let the cameras do the triggering.

Most NVRs get crippled in capacity if you use the NVR to do the triggering. Some features can have the capabilities of the NVR cut in half.

So if you plan on using the NVR processor to do the triggering, make sure you read the fine print to ensure it will meet your needs.

For example, the NVR you suggested says this:

So that means if using the NVR for the AI, you can only do it on 1 camera. But the NVR can accept the AI triggers if done within the camera itself.

I'm not familiar with the intricacies of HiK equipment, but generally what determines recording is the camera itself telling the NVR to record. So the camera or settings is the culprit, nit usually the NVR

That said, your NVR is quite old and the newer model you mention has current AI capabilities which are bound to be superior to old fashioned MD and the many false alerts that come with that
