I recently noticed that my 5MP ip camera is running on only 4 wires. I wonder how does the camera is receiving power through data channels. Any one know what is this because I remember that poe is designed to use all 4 pairs.

The data stream is carried on top of DC potential, 2 wires for + power and 2 wires for - power, with all 4 carrying data. This is POE mode A and is the typical arrangement when using a POE switch. With a POE injector, all 8 wires are generally used, 4 for data and 4 for power, Mode B. The higher power poe++ links use all 8 wires for the power, carrying the data on top of the DC levels, Mode 4-pair. The wikipedia article covers the details nicely: Power over Ethernet - Wikipedia
