You have said it worked on a short 7 foot piece of cable. By chance, was this 7 foot cable a pre-made cable? Also, what type of RJ-45 connectors did you use? They make different RJ-45 connectors for Cat5e and Cat6a. How much length is untwisted on the wires before they are crimped onto the RJ45 connector. You might be getting cross talk if they are not tightly made connections with minimal wire straightening.
