Greetings, I have been reading some of the posts but now have a question. Can I run a managed switch as unmanaged as I know nothing about configuring a switch right now. It's an Allworx 8 port POE and I got it for $40 bucks. The switch is brand new and I want to know if i just plug it in and do nothing else will that be okay? I have an eight camera setup with NVR. Thanks.

Can I run a managed switch as unmanaged
Yes. But look at the user manual to make sure what has to be done to do that. I have a managed POE switch that is run as unmanaged and was just plug it in and use it. Not sure if all are like that.

Yes, it can be used in place of or as an un-managed switch BUT...
I'd perform a reset and/or log into it with a PC (it has an embedded webGUI and IP address) since just in case it was previously configured, to insure it is not set up in such a way as to interfere with functioning the way you want it to (operate as a Layer 2 network device).

If you're not familiar with the above procedure, check for documentation on their site.

Thanks for the reply. I found this on this on the website and it seems to confirm it needs to be configured. I hope.
"After powering up the switch for the first time, you can perform the initial
switch configuration using a web browser. For managing other switch
features, please refer to the Web interface user guide for details."
