Merry christmas folks

I need someone brains as I'm quite stumped

About 6 months ago I picked up a hdw-5231rp-ze from @EMPIRETECANDY

When I received it I managed to snap the torx key in the grub screw.
Well alas it's been 6 months waiting for me to sort it out.

Long story short I've had to drill the grub screw on the base out which is all fine if not a little annoying.

Now the problem I've got I can't for the life of me get the base off the body.

From memory I'm sure it should literally just pop right off.

But it's definately stuck fast on.

Any good ideas how to get the damn thing off? As I want to get the sodding thing mounted as it's been looming at me for so long!

I won't ask how you managed to snap that grub screw. You have to make sure there is nothing, drill spoils or a little flange left by the drill or a little piece of screw, left where you did the drill out. That may require drilling with an over sized bit. Drill VERY slowly with minimal pressure to make the hole as clean as possible. That, in turn, will make replacing the grub screw more problematic. Worst case, use a thin bladed screw driver to work around the joint between the base and housing. I'd start opposite the grub screw, but that's just me. That should work if there isn't anything left or the screw or in the hole, but may need some touch-up paint from nicking it up.

Thanks I've managed to get it off I think it may have been left over swarf from the drilling in the hole.

I didn't snag the grub the head of the torx bit supplied with the camera just snapped clean off in the head.

No pressure but they are quite soft.

I've managed to 're tap with a m4 tap so just got to find an m4 grub screw locally or to be fair any m4 screw will work provided it's got a nice small head so it doesn't look unsightly

Glad you got it sorted out. Have fun installing it and enjoy the great video it provides!

We're not quite home and dry yet.
It's proving quite difficult to find a screw to fit!!
Grrr.

I've already got the starlight speed dome so know how good these things can be and I'm let to believe this camera has slightly better night video.

So will be glad to get it up as it's been a long time coming.

Just need to conjure up some sort of screw

Maybe ask Andy for a new screw?

It's just a set screw. They're readily available in both metric and imperial sizes.
If you stripped it, you could probably put in a helicoil.

Yes they are easy enough to get hold of on the net in packs etc
I've 're tapped it to m4 as that's what tap I had and it was just the right size

Although my ignorance though I'll just pop to screwfix and pick one up.
Nada
£20 for variety pack.

It's just impatience as I wanted to get it up tomorrow while I got the day to myself.

I'm leaning towards just putting a standard pan head m4 in unless I order online and wait for delivery

Get creative. Cut the head off the pan head and cut in a slot to make your own set screw. It'll look a lot better.

+1...and you can use a phillips head screw which will eliminate the need for the special hex tool to tighten or loosen it which is probably provided for "security" but is a pain in the posterior IMO.

SO what was your final solution? Inquiring minds want to know :)

I cut the head off a machine screw and grooved the screw with the grinder so I made kind of a slotted grub screw.

It's worked a treat and the cam is now online.

Still tinkering with the cam setup but I'm pleasantly surprised at the FOV when fully out.

Worked perfect for the position I wanted it.

Just need to get around to repositioning to of my older hik 2032 cams now as they've been replaced with the dahua ptz speed dome and this cam.

The 2032 cams will come in good to use down a small passageway down the side of my house

Glad it all worked out.

That gives you a sense of satisfaction. Good work!
