PTZ recommendation

Got the itch to add a PTZ with auto tracking into the mix and move some of my other cameras around the house.

The max distance to the of my block is 400 ft. and would like to keep my budget around $500

Been eyeballing:

Vikylin/Dahua - SD4825X
Sunba - P636 V2

From what I've concluded from reviews is that 4K cams have issues with blurring when tracking zoomed. I'm torn on something that's 4mp vs 8mp.

Any input or suggestions would be appreciated

Don't even think of 8MP unless you are forking out $2k.

A big theme here is don't chase MP and that is even more important on PTZs.

The proper MP/sensor ratio is even more important with PTZs that can see further away.

At 400 feet, unless you have stadium quality light, any camera not on green below will struggle.

As someone says here, buy once cry once. Save your money for a better camera.

Then you won't be like me with a Sunba PTZ sitting in a box of other cheap cameras.

Best overall value on the ideal MP/sensor ratio:

Cheapest ones but will struggle at night due to less than ideal MP/sensor ratio:

EmpireTech PTZ494M-25X 1/2.8" CMOS 4MP 25x Starlight IR 4.8mm–120mm Va

Open up the wallet for a great night experience:

1/1.2" 8Megapixel STARVIS CMOS | 45x optical zoom | Ultra light sensitivity | Max. 25/30 fps@4K | Auto-tracking | Perimeter protection | Face detection | Face recognition | Metadata | SMD Plus | IP67 | Dual light fusion | Electronic defog | Wiper

Nope it is the international version.

Vikykin tends to be the lower end models.

You probably won't find it cheaper than EmpireTech and certainly not without the support he provides.

Here is the review thread on it:

Went with the PTZ5A4M. Front of the house is kinda wonky so had to make do with the current placement for best coverage/angles. The house is rather narrow and extremely long, the large overhanging soffits made for tricky coverage. Where do you think the best mounting location would be for the addition of the PTZ.

It’s a siren that’s linked to the ADT system, both cams are B54IR-ZE-S3’s.
The current cams are great but don’t provide as much clarity when zoomed in as expected. I was hoping to be able to read a license plate on a vehicle parked on the street, which is why I’m wanting to add the ptz for extra zoom capabilities and some tracking. Just kinda unfortunate on the house design as that’s a lot of camera on a small area lol.

Yeah you would need the Z4E for those distances.

Keep in mind that if you want to use the PTZ for plate reading of a moving vehicle, at night you will have to turn it into a fixed camera and set the camera up to read plates.

If you only want to use it to read plates of parked cars, then yeah you will be able to do that.

This

Using a PTZ to read plates at night (both directions) requires

Either:
A) a metric shit ton of ambient light both directions to keep in visible B&W or maybe color. Way more than you will have I assure you
B) Loss of all Overview at night and seeing just the plate with the help of two spotter cameras

B - with the added benefit of small 30-45ft distances

That distance is going to be hard for a 12mm to read a plate, but I just want to make sure your streams are set up correctly. What you posted are screen shots from your sub streams.

The streams are set, I just screenshotted that from my app to provide an idea of my current coverage. Wish I could get the mainstream quality remotely.
