For the longest time I thought there was an owl in my neighborhood. Until recently did I discover this "whooooo" noises is driven by my PTZ camera moving to a different preset. Its mounted to my house and the attic amplifies the noises....

Is this normal? Is there any way to dampen this noise - like changing it to a lower speed? I found the PTZ speed but this doesnt do anything when i set it to low. Or does anyone have any noises dampening suggestions?

Thanks all.

LOL - yeah in some installs it could sound like that.

Not much you can really do other than moving it to another location that might have more housing behind it.

You could try filling the bracket with foam and adding some in the vicinity to it in the attic - that helped mine a lot, but it is still there on one where it is just exposed to not a lot of insulation backing behind it.

Sadly out of all my PTZ cameras and I have more then my fair share that is one thing that I just get used to or find something different for the location.. If you are needing the zoom more then the Pan tilt then using a Long Range Bullet camera can be the ticket. I mean if it is something that is bothering you at night time do to the cameras Reboot time, Set the Reboot times when you are not home, home is the busiest or not asleep. All my PTZs all the way back to the stone age always had that drive sound of the Pan. Lot of it has to do with the systems drive. Over time the company might put out some fW that can help with the drive but there will always be noise.

I have the 841, 941 and 1051 and while they don't make as much noise no if they are mounted on the little mount it comes with. However on a reboot and it doing it pan and tilt test it can still be heard.. The older don't have tracking but the Amcrest 841, 941 V3 and the 1041 do have tracking. But if you are looking to use them indoors and on Wifi with Mesh and Bi I would stay away from the 1041.. Plus the tracking on them isn't the best but the V3 does offer So the 2 pictures below is from 841v3 has auto tracking that I have off and the other camera a 941 normal you can see don't offer Auto Tracking.. Also the 1041 is the V3 of the 1051 that is the 4mp version. There have been a lot of people unhappy with the 1041.. I don't use Mesh and others have not mentioned any issues with the 841 or 941v3 having issues like the 1041 has.. So just keeping it real..

Edit Plus mine are connected using Ethernet and not Wifi, I don't like my cameras getting taken out by Delivery Drivers so all my cameras are on wires besides my ASH26 outside Flood Light and my Doorbells seeing only offer wifi..

You can try putting a piece of mass-loaded vinyl between the house and the mount. Make sure the screws go through it, and tighten them down snug but not "ugga dugga" tight with the impact driver. The idea is to decouple the mount from the house and damp vibration as much as possible to keep it from being transmitted to the attic inside, so you dont want to completely squash the vinyl, it needs "breathing room" if you will. MLV is generally used to damp vibration in car sheet metal panels so sound systems dont cause rattles. It is sold in car audio shops under the brands Dynamat and Brown Bread. That will probably be your best bet to get a small single piece - because it's kind of expensive. They're likely to have smaller scraps from install jobs hanging around, or would be willing to cut you a piece off their bulk roll. DO NOT use roofing asphalt sheet (even though it has similar properties). It will melt and run in the heat of the sun.

All autotracking PTZ have strong motor inside, they are ready at anytime to do tracking, so will have some noise.
