PW reset, without formatting DVR hard drive , GWSecurity (GW5508NPG)

Is it possible to reset the PW, without losing footage on DVR? Had an employee steal over 20k worth of equipment. Said employee is also the only one who has access to admin login of DVR. Employee was fired and DVR is currently DC'd from wifi to prevent employee from deleting footage. Is there anyway to preserve footage on the GW5508NPG without doing a factory reset?

Oh that sucks. Hopefully they didn't delete the video before you realized it.

Factory reset doesn't delete the footage as the video is on a hard drive and the operating system is on the motherboard.

But to be safe you could unplug it and remove the HDD and then factory reset and then unplug and reinstall the HDD.

Sorry I don't know much about CCTV/DVR's..If I were to open the DVR is it possible to extract the HD, and download the footage via a PC/laptop?

If only it were that simple.

Most likely it is in some proprietary format/structure that won't play and the best way would be within the NVR or if they offer a program to view it directly from the HDD.
