I currently have Blue Iris handling more than a dozen HD ip cams.

My question is in reference to POE vs non POE NVRs

On a non poe NVR with a cat 5 cable going from my 24 port gigabit switch to the NVR will my network setting stay the same and the NVR just import the settings as is?

ON a POE NVR does the NVR take control of everything and reassign network settings?

Lastly, if a POE NVR has its poe functionality turned off would it be the same as the NVR acting as a switch where network settings stay the same (IN other words the POE nvr being turned into a NON poe NVR)

Thanks !

Non Poe NVR's have a management port that will plug into your switch, you have the choice to manually set your subnet settings or leave it DHCP to let your router give it a IP address. The whole premise of a poe NVR is to make it easy for the end user to plug and play, it DOES assign the cameras sitting behind it ip addresses. You can adjust the the subnet settings to whatever you want but it cannot be on the same one as your management port. The poe nvr also has a management port that will plug into your switch. The poe function can not be turned off but who cares, it will not send power to a device unless the device asks for it. I plug my laptop into them all the time to fine tune cams. And finally if you plug a cam into a Dahua POE nvr it will act as a switch and DHCP server and do the routing for your cams and no getting around this.
