I've installed my first cameras (2 HikVision ColorVu's 4MP) and my first time using BI. I've done my best to watch as many videos and read through all of the great information on this site as well, in order to setup an efficient and resourceful system.
On both of my cameras, I have a high quality main stream and then a lower resolution 640x480 sub stream. When viewing the camera settings, the 'General' tab does show me that I am receiving both streams at the appropriate settings. (See attached)
I am curious as to what exactly this is doing when it comes to recording and playback? What are the benefits of setting it up this way?
I believe what I ideally want to have is the ability to record the lower res sub-stream 24/7 and then only the high res main steam when Triggered by motion. Is this something that I am able to do with these settings? Or, would this require that I essentially have 2 cameras configured in BI, where 1 is for the sub stream and the other is for the main stream?
