this actually has active cooling (a fan) in it and will tolerate your paint job much better than most..

install and play with it, Q2U is just asking for some nerd porn.. with most camera's sample video's on youtube being Chinese parking lots we dont get that good idea what were buying.. so once its all mounted up and tweaked to the fullest, hit record and make a demo video of what it can do then upload it to youtubes, it will take the file direct.. put the model number in the description and anyone who's seriously considering this camera will see your lovely video and throw money at there nearest vendor; at least thats how I ended up w/mine.. but yours is even newer and not alot of 4MP Dahua PTZ vids out there overlooking nice scenery.

considering your big boat and dock, mount it up before painting it.. you may be surprised, and when you do go to paint it u wont go mess up your art work trying to bolt it to the tree for the first time.. being visible might be a good idea to keep people from fucking w/your property.

Dahua sets the bar for PTZ's that others have to match, considering what you could of paid you got a hell of a deal.. if you'd of gone to a commercial video surveillance shop and asked for this the'd of charged you a couple grand.

I wouldn't paint it ....

i totally understand that you don't want a big white camera stuck to the side of the tree .
but if you paint it black you'll just have a big black camera stuck to the side of the tree .
and if you paint it camo you'll just have a big camo camera stuck to the side of the tree .

:)

disguise it !!!!!

the mounting hardware could still be painted to match the trunk of the tree ....

Good call on the camo disguise Ianc! You guys are full of good ideas. I might have to do that. I'll start simple and leave it alone until I know everything works well then see decide how it looks and what to do. There are valid arguments on both sides whether it is good to disguise them and more natural but also to leave them out in the open to deter people. We don't really have a crime problem though. This camera is for a novelty and to check the boat is ok in the storms etc.

I promise to post videos as soon as I get it mounted. Maybe a week or so. The files get recorded in a weird format off the Smart PSS app. Wonder if there is a way to pull the original H.264 file instead

There is a wire on the dongle that says Mic. Anyone have a web link to a microphone I can wire in? I couldn't really tell if there was an internal mic, I am assuming no?

@nayr, is DHCP >> than static IP?
If you have a halfway decent router, then you can set up a DHCP reservation for each device, and manage all the addresses from the router's interface instead of managing dozens of static IP addresses in dozens of different interfaces.

Currently just using the supplied Actiontec from VZ. Plans to upgrade to a Nighthawk or something of better quality BUT not really seeing a need to do so as my WiFi is OK throughout the house.

For BI, would I need them to be DHCP or can I keep static?

If you already have them configured static, leave them that way. The important thing is that the IP addresses do not change, which means using either static addresses or DHCP with reserved addresses. Either way accomplishes the same goal.

Will I need to utilize the 12v power input to use a MICROPHONE with the Dahua 30x? Or can I steal power off the camera some how?

Or how about using a POE splitter to 12v adapter? But I would need a way of keep the POE+ power to the RJ45 which these say they don't do? Although this is not ideal as none of them are waterproof and made for the outdoors. I guess I could install a waterproof sprinkler box for all these accessories and mount it way up high out of reach, but that would be kind of ugly on the tree.

There is no info that I came across in the manual about adding mic inputs. And the only post I came across doesn't answer all the questions: here

Anyone have a good solution?

Thanks

yeah dont hook a microphone up to it heh..

12v poe splitter wont power your PTZ, not enough amps.. I have a few external mic's hooked up to my dahua's.. and only when convenient, so my big black face ptz has no audio..

besides, in cali its not legal to use audio recording:
California makes it a crime to record or eavesdrop on any confidential communication, including a private conversation or telephone call, without the consent of all parties to the conversation. See Cal. Penal Code § 632.
source: http://www.dmlp.org/legal-guide/california-recording-law

legally your better off avoiding any camera with a microphone hooked up or built in.
