This is my first purchase of a security cam. I plan to use it to install it under an eave to cover my driveway and approach to the front door. The camera will be pretty low, so I want it to be as vandal-resistant as possible. Obviously, the 2142 has a 4mp camera versus 3mp for the 2132, but it seems that the 2132 has been around longer and is better known. I've read some threads where people complained about the image quality of the 2142, but I don't know if this is really just a config problem.

Can somebody with experience with both give me some guidance?

For driveway? Neither, unless you:

a) Have lots of light source
b) Have very tiny driveway
c) don't care about night vision
d) all of the above

I've been there and done that with both cams, it's been waste of time and money really for driveway cam in my case

I would recommend something with a newer Matrix IR - not the older standard halo ring of IR's. The Matrix IR's will give you a more even coverage. If you have plenty of light or don't need the IR, then these will do fine.
@klasipca do you have any video at night with movement - passing cars or people moving recorded by that Longse, I've only seen your stills you posted.

Below are examples of your 4mp dome you asked about without IR on

Below are some 3mp Turret captures/examples with the Matrix IR.

You just need to decide what you feel is worth your $$$ and what best helps you accomplish your task.

Hmm. I will need to cover an arc with a radius of about 35 feet. I do have pretty good sources of light, one bulb that stays on and a bright motion detector light. @zero-degrees: what is an example of one of the Matrix-IR cameras you recommend? Hopefully, something in the same price range as the Hikvision cameras.

Keep in mind if your trying to cover a "large" area and want a 2.8mm lens your going to need to get some addtional IR illuminators to help brighten up your area, or consider a large camera with higher power IR's like a Huisun mini PTZ - I don't personally have one but there are several OP's here covering it and it seems to be working well for those that have it. However, it isn't exactly small and you may not want it on the front of your house.

Everyone can give you "opinions" what will work but only you can decide whats best for your needs. Look for examples before making any decisions or just going off what people "recommend"

I also edited my last post to include the pics that didn't show when posting the first time

Sure I can post some motion. Some stills for now:

Night comparison:

Hikvision 2CD2142FWD-IWS 4MP (with Flood light)

I took a look at the Huisun camera, but I think it's too big. I'm afraid that somebody would notice and steal the camera itself! I need something low-key and not too easy to get at. I suppose that if the IR capabilities are not sufficient, I could supplement with another IR source.

As far as the 2 cameras in the OP, are there good reasons to choose one over the other?

You guys are making me look bad!

How long is your driveway? I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with DS-2CD2142FWD-IS as long as you get the lens length right. There are better options for more money and obviously not the same brand.

2142 > 2132 in everything including price!

Are you mounting it within reach, then Huisun is not ideal, I personally mounted one of mine at 6' and not worried about getting it stolen.

Here how it compares to my 3MP turret and 4MP dome

I can't find any good info on the Longse S500 in your sig. Can you point me to a place that sells it so I can get a look at it?

Here is some motion at the distance. It's running at 5MP 30 fps 12k bitrate, you will see choppiness due to NVR, (I normally have it set at 8k bitrate), live view doesn't have this issue. Also, I am not sure why, but youtube only showing 1080p...
