Hello Everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I am looking for some recommendations from those who eat, drink and breath security cameras.

I have been looking for MANY hours for a camera with the following properties:
  • Wi-Fi
  • Outdoor
  • Infrared emitters. Do not need anything strong (couple yards max).
  • Managed through a modern browser (e.g. no third-party apps, software, executables, ActiveX, COM, etc.) using HTTPS. Does not require Flash or other obsolete software. Must run on a “locked down” computer. For example, use of HTML5 technology.
  • Motion Detection with secure e-mail delivery (SMTP over SSL / TLS)
  • Consumer grade (e.g. <$75).
Nice to have / not required:
  • SD Card compatible with access via the Web Interface.
  • Dome / PTZ
Do not need tracking, alarms, two-way audio, or anything fancy. This is basically to get photos e-mailed (via google) of wildlife / people who come to the front door. Will be used over a short distance, so no zoom or great quality is required.

Oddly enough, I have an old camera that works as described, but it is no longer in production and everything now looks to interface with third party software. The biggest “miss” with WiFi Cameras lately is the capability of being managed / viewed using HTTPS via native browser technologies. While some people seek the convenience of using an app, I find loading software from unknown developers a security risk and will avoid.

I have looked at over a dozen different sites tracking down a product. Any ideas will be helpful.

Thank you in advance.

FYI.... I tried to find similar examples in this forum but could not find what I was looking for. I apologize if this has been asked previously.

Welcome to IPCT !

What brand and model is this"...old camera that works as described" ?

Please clarify or expound on:
  • Your “locked down” computer, as this has many interpretations and levels
  • Dome / PTZ

Thanks for the replies.
@TonyR: "Locked Down" is often termed for systems where the user does not have admin rights (Definition of lock down). Installing software is often restricted.

@biggen: Thank you for taking the time to look up the camera. I can appreciate most of you on this forum are "hardcore" cam guys and what I am looking for is very low tech. I had looked at Amcrest's cameras on Amazon. What I found was the Wired version had the native browser management interface, but the specs for the Wireless version required the APP (Management Software: Amcrest Smart Home). I am hoping it was just a documentation oversight and that a native browser will work. I have an e-mail out to their Customer Service department, but I have not heard back.

Thanks again!

@looney2ns : Thanks for the recommendation. I have a POE setup at my home connecting four outdoor bullet cameras to a DVR. The Wifi camera I am looking for will be in a protected area on a porch where it will not get any rain and will be next to an outlet. It is for my mother's home, so it must be wireless for easy installation. I would configure it remotely and she can place it where needed.

+1^^ on the Amcrest IP2M-841

FWIW, I've installed 4 of the V2 versions, 1 of the latest V3 version and 3 of it's lower-res HD (720p) cousins in the last 4 years and all have functioned with no hiccups.

I currently use 3 of them with Blue Iris; 1 on front porch to look at deliveries, 1 in garage and 1 in sunroom to watch the dogs; two of the 3 is operating on Wi-Fi. I have also set one up with Tinycam Pro on a Sony smart TV (Android).

The one on the front porch is on a plant stand against the house, out of direct sun and rain...it's been through three 90 degree summers and as many 25 degree winters without a hitch.
