Recording video to Dahua NVR from Dahua VTO doorbell

Is there any way to record the events on the NVR such that you can view missed visitors without scanning hours of video?
Obviously the VTO can be added as a camera, which of course records the visitors, but I don't see any way to link the events so you can easily view missed presses.
The VTO also allows addition of an SD card, and from the settings I assume it will record onto that, but I'd prefer to store everything in the NVR.
Has anyone found a really nice setup for the Dahua doorbell solution? It seems very clunky to me.

Modern AI NVR's can add SMD or IVS to any camera feed - also from doorbell / intercom once..

If you have AI NVR configure SMD or IVS for that channel on NVR using AI by recorder function...

it will not records button presses, but it will record someone on intercom camera view...

Its not possible !

On newer gen3 Vto you can add sdcard and record these events.
