Hi- I have finally signed up here but I have been following this forum for 6 months or so. I purchased 7 cameras from Andy along with his AI NVR that has 8 channels. ( mix of 5442, 4k wide view camera for overview and a mini ptz) nothing is hooked up to the Internet.
Currently I have a spot for 1 more camera on the NVR which I PLAN to add later on. (Another 5442- camera 8)
I also just bought a doorbell camera which will make it camera 9. The doorbell camera I plan on just using a 256gb micro sd since the NVR only does 8 channels. ( black reolink wifi)
I can only do WiFi with the doorbell camera ( no access to run poe) and it seems the reolink doorbell WiFi is the way to go to get 24/7 recording. It’s a bummer I can’t use the existing chime though. I have seen people use relays to keep the chime but that’s on the v1 model and not the newer v2. I also like the fact that if the reolink loses WiFi that the camera will still record. I understand the app won’t work but it’s still recording.
I was also looking into the Lorex doorbell since I can use my existing mechanical chime but it appears that if WiFi goes down the 24/7 recording will stop where the reolink doesn’t do that.
I also noticed a new reolink BATTERY doorbell in which you can charge with a Cable or with the existing doorbell wires. This doorbell has the ability to support a mechanical chime. I called reolink and they said I can do 24/7 recording with it but they don’t recommend it since it’s a battery. I then asked about removing the battery as I plan on using the doorbell wires to turn on the doorbell camera but doesn’t appear we can remove the battery.
Can anyone help me with my scenario? Thanks.
