My brother recently bought property that came with an already built in CCTV system.
The system is over 1.5 years old but has never been used. It was powered on and the only thing that was done to it is that the password was changed. The default password was changed to whatever and the old owners did not know it.
I managed to reset the password by using information I found online and found out that the two 3TB HDD drives where never even formated. They were still in RAW format. Which is the format that the drive is in when it is purchased.
I managed to configure the system to record only during an event. I managed to get two out of 4 online. The other two seem to have issues with the cable and will re-crimp them next time.
The system is Hikvision NVR with 4 IP Cameras.
I need tips with the following.
I found out that it the streaming works very slow through with Web interface and only works with IE. Chrome requires to purchase an extension after the trial period expires. That means that it will only work with a Microsoft computer and not another system had a direct connection from the laptop to the NVR yet it was doing about 1 frame every min.
It is using Hikvision cameras and they don't seem to have night vision mode in them.
The other issue is that I need to get the signal to the guards room which is further away and at a lower point.
I am going to take a look into getting a cable from that point to the guards room.
Otherwise I will need to use a way to wireless transmit the signal VIA something like Wireless KVM.
But it might also need an extender in between the two points because they are not at the same level.
