After delay's caused by the wrath of old man winter, then torrential flooding rains that followed, I've had this camera up and running for a little over three weeks or so. The day I mounted the cam, the temp plummeted, and that's not my idea of fun anymore. But the camera has now been tested in most types of weather, a blizzard and another plain old snow storm, 5 below temps, and 15 below wind chill for multiple days in a row. Then it went through torrential rains that totaled 3.25" in a 12 hr period. So finally, finished the night time video portion of the review.

As I don't have a lot of light on the front of my house, so the test rig received a new job, holding lights for the driveway.

Note, this cam only features Pan and Tilt, no Zoom, the lens is 4mm.

I really hate to see Dahua using plastic for this camera, I don't think that bods well for the longevity when exposed to the sun. You can also see how the housing sags between fastening points. It was that way right out of the box. Again, not good for long term viability of the cam. I checked that the screws were snug, but I didn't investigate beyond that concerning the gaps. I can see wind driven rain easily getting into those gaps, I can also see the gaps getting larger over time exposed to the sun. Now whether or not the camera it's self is weather proofed to overcome the failing of those gaps, well that's a good question.

At time of this writing, I don't have a price point for this. But I'm assuming it will be at the lower end. So, to that end. Overall the camera delivers on it's goods in just the "ok" category.
Quirks I've seen:
  • Picture looks soft, even when using it's UI, BI or an NVR. I raised sharpness to 70 to try to over come that. It helped but didn't cure it.
  • Video has a jerkiness to it, at times, the video will actually pause for a second or two. You will see this in the video's.
  • The panning speed won't win any races, it's rather slow. It has 3 speeds, low, Mid, High, I'm running it in high. Low and mid is painfully slow.
  • The camera spontaneously reboots it's self once, sometimes twice per day as shown in the logs. It takes 3-4 minutes to fully boot up.
  • The white light on the front of the cam, is not worth much in helping the night color picture. It works well as a flashing warning.
  • The controls from the UI for PT are finicky, they don't provide a smooth experience, you will see the camera slightly jerking at times.
  • The cam sometimes takes a second or two to respond to PT controls.
The good:
  1. Everything else works as it should, the AI, the active deterrence features, etc.
  2. Two way talk works, the speaker can be adjusted to be quit loud.
  3. It works in BI, two way audio and recording.

All video recorded and exported from BI. Cam had the following exposure settings, couldn't drop the NR below 50 at night, it had crazy noise if I did.

Absolutely agree.
I also think the square mount looks ugly compared to the circulator mounts.

Diffintitly I see this as a cheap PTZ and designed for indoor use.
Not really suitable for home use, indoor or outdoor. Other PT(and Z) cameras look to be better for indoor/outdoor applications. Particularly the smaller PT(Z)s for indoor use.

Sorry, I have to say it. If you are going to make a camera like this for the consumer market, it makes no sense to me to be only PT. And, without some form of Auto tracking what is the point. What consumer is going to sit in front of a screen all day and move this thing as needed. Sure, presets on an overview camera are obviously the way to trigger this camera, but without zoom and some form of Auto tracking even then, not a very useful camera. My interest is in the SD3A205-GNP-PV, with IR and zoom. Still waiting on price and availability of the SD3A205.

it seems to me the gap in the market is a smaller compact PTZ with auto tracking right?? what are they waiting for??

Yup, but look where auto tracking is being used. It's being used for large complexes and buildings, and those scenarios need more zoom than 4x. A PTZ with any decent zoom is large.

A mini PTZ does nothing much outside, mini ones are used indoors.
So the manufacture sees no point in making a mini PTZ with tracking, might as well just buy many fixed cameras.

We're a small drop in the bucket for small form factor cameras. Big AI is for "smart city" cameras where it's a huge space.

i've always hought a mini ptz with 4x zoom and auto tracking would be great on a walkway tracking someone up to your front door...

Do you think the manufacturer's see this as a profitable market? We're a small drop in the bucket. They want you to buy a large PTZ if this is on the outside of a commercial building.
Dahua and Hikvison have nothing for home users, they don't care for the little bits of money, they want the big city project.

Autotracking need a bigger motor, or else the camera pan/tilt will be very slow. Autotracking if too slow is useless. Currently SD49225XA-HNR or SD49425XB-HNR has much better AT then old models, but still some guys think it's not very fast to track people or fast moving car.
PTZ is a bit comlicated camrea compare to the normal fixed camera.

Just seen this video:

Looks interesting that it suggests outdoors for locations of use.
