Courtesy of Andy @EMPIRETECANDY we have the Dahua NVR4104-HS-P-4ks Network Recorder to look over.

It can be purchased here: Empire Technology Co., Ltd - Small Orders Online Store, Hot Selling and more on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group or email Andy at: kingsecurity2014@163.com

I will edit this when I find out.

I have found some of the specs to not align with what's actually on the unit. Such as it only has one network port, but the specs list two.

I've had this a couple of days now, and I'll admit, it's been a learning curve for me, as it's my first experience with a real NVR. The only other NVR I've dealt with was a Zmodo piece of crap, a few years ago. This is not the fault of Dahua's design or GUI.

It's very compact, and lightweight. It has a fan, it's not obnoxiously loud but I can hear it even with my poor hearing at 10ft away when the room is quiet. It would be simple to replace it. The unit runs cool to the touch, while recording 4 channels at 30fps at 5092 bitrate, h.265.

I have not encountered any lagging when in the menus or messing with the video feeds. Which, I've done a lot of.

On to the porn!

For those of you concerned with theft, this unit would be perfect to place in a lock box such as this,
Either as is, or take the hardrive and mother board and mount in the box by themselves without the chassis. A few motherboard stand offs, and you're set.
Use conduit for all wires, and no one is the wiser.

1 SATA port?
Is the network port Gigabit eth, with the PoEs 100 MB?

That is a really sub-optimal old HDD you have there (40GB 7200RPM). Fine for testing i guess. I tossed all of my 250GB and smaller drives away a couple of years ago. I couldn't figure out anything that i would ever do with them in the future (ps that is not normal for me).

Thank for your Hard drive concern, see my comment above the picture of it. ;)
HD is working just fine for testing.
1 Independent 100Mbps Ethernet Port
1-Sata Port, not sure where you would place a 2nd drive anyway. ;)
If you want two Sata ports, then you would want to purchase the appropriate model.

I have a very similar model, the 4108, 4K, non-POE. I'm pretty happy with everything about it except this: there is no Manual Snapshot feature during Playback. In the previous firmware the icon was present but disabled; now it's gone completely. So, in order get a screenshot from playback I have to export a video clip, transfer it to my PC, play it, get it stopped on the right frame, then snag a jpg. Really disappointing.

Our warehouse guy sent a wrong NVR to one of my clients, so i ask him help to ship this to @looney2ns for a testing, he always do great job to the community. Thanks!! This can help some guys buy some cheaper NVR with limited Budget, but normally better use the 8 ports POE. This model just show how is the cheaper one working

@geezer The only place I see that you can obtain a snapshot from playback video is when using Smartpss.

I'd be satisfied using SmartPSS for reviewing video and for capturing clips and snaps; the features for that are better than those of the NVR. But that would require a link between my CCTV switch and my LAN/WAN. Unless and until I set up a secondary VPN router, I keep that link unplugged.

Otherwise I am happy with this product. It's a very affordable and reliable solution for small systems.

Is there a mobile app to view the cameras live and recordings remotely? Thanks.

Thanks

This little guy has been running now for a week, and the only issue I've had is that a 5231 cam that had previously been used with Blue Iris, acted a little flaky when trying to use IVS connected to this NVR. I defaulted the cam to factory, and the NVR picked it backup automagically in about 35 seconds, and all is well.

I have the 8 port one and it’s been running for a straight month now without any issues at all!
