What in the world is going on with the high level of mental illness. Has it gone way up without explanation?

So very, very sad.
Prayers for both of them, especially for the woman who I understand was injured much more severely.
What is happening to people?
God help us.

It seems to be happening everywhere. Back in my hometown of Toronto, the public transit system has become very dangerous! In the past year, a woman was set on fire on a bus (!), people have been stabbed, transit operator shot with a pellet gun, and people chased through a subway station by someone with a syringe. Not to mention people being pushed onto subway tracks.

No real explanation. Just society disintegrating.

But, what is triggering this? They think they can get away with it with no consequence? Or, something in the air/water? Or, social media is taking it's toll? Or, people feel left behind? Or, years in the making due to improper upbringing generation after generation?

Fifty years of running God out of our schools and public / government buildings, years of easy-access porn, glorification of violence (movie, video games, etc.), the destruction of the core family values and redefinition of same, increasingly liberal catch and release of felons (especially repeat offenders), re-definition via social media and video games regarding what a moral compass is. That also makes it easy to blame your own mistakes and errors on someone else.

In a nutshell, today's societal mantra is "if it feels good, do it" and a close second...."the sun rises and sets just for me everyday." The saying "do what's right" is a waste on those that have their own sick, skewed idea of what IS "right".

I think it has to do a lot with lack of mental health resources, housing which is coming increasingly expensive and out of reach for some, and financial insecurity.

Having been a transit operator in Toronto for 16 years, I pretty much saw it all. And it's generally an underhoused, mentally ill demographic. There are a lot of supports but many don't stay in shelters due to violence, behavioural issues and violence in said shelters.

and people wonder why I carry 55 rounds of +P+ all the time
