Server PC Windows 10 update yesterday broke server connection

I just did a routine Windows update last night and my BI server is not visible to other devices either wired or wifi on the LAN or remotely on cell connection. I ran the server PC task manager and the BI service is indeed running properly. Then I started BI5 admin and everything looked good, cams all up and running, server settings correct and the same as my other devices are using for UI3 and App access. The server PC is live on the network as my OpenVPN connects fine and I can reach my Plex server that runs on the same PC as the BI server. I can't say exactly when this Windows update dropped because I don't update this PC all that often. I guess I can look at the history to see which update it was if that will be helpful. Anyone else have this issue?

It is very likely the network profile was reset from private to public.
If they didn't keep changing the settings so frequently, I'd give you the path.
We've seen this many times before. It may well be in the FAQ.

Yep, a source of headache for many people is the Windows update changes your NIC's network properties from "private" to "public" for some unknown reason.

That's it. I was just looking at firewall and network setting and the profile is set to public. I can't find where to switch it over though. Need to look some more.

I still like to keep it up to date and I do have Windows updates set to manual so it doesn't take the system down when I am not here. The crazy thing is that this will probably happen again in a year or so and I'll be back here asking again. LOL. I don't mess with my BI much since it is running well. I appreciate the support.

If your BI5 computer only does BI5, I would disable Windows Updates. FWIW

That's fine, just keep in mind many times a Windows update totally screws stuff up like this guy last week and rolling back the update fixed his system.

Personally I don't like rollbacks as it always provides the opportunity to leave something behind. I make a clone of my drive before I update Windows or BI so if it goes south, I just go back to the clone.

Only do it when you got the time to screw with it if/when it goes south.

Keep in mind compared to an NVR, your BI computer is already more current as NVRs rarely get updates.

Your computer is still getting antivirus updates.

If you only use it for BI, the risk of an outdated Windows is fairly remote.

I also use it as my HTPC and for Plex. I have at times kept up with backing up my PCs but I have 3 desktops (HTPC/BI/Plex, my old Win 10 gaming/general purpose PC, and a new Win 11 gaming PC) plus a couple of laptops. Managing backups with all that would be a full time job, so I just generally go naked these days, except for important data backup. I know, not the smartest thing.
