I replaced an old Dahua IPC-HDW5831R-ZE for a IPC-Color4K-T180 (Andy) to have a better view on our back garden. The camera is connected to a DHI-NVR5208 recorder with 7 other cameras. Firmware in the camera is V3.140.0000000.7.R, Build Date: 2023-12-24

The camera itself is awesome, very good view in the dark. But I have a problem getting the motion detection right. I must be missing something somehow. It is recording every insect flying in the garden at night, because they are lighted up by the LED lights, and in the day time it is recording any moving shadow.

In Video Detection, I have set the Enable button at "On" I haven't set an event Linkage. Video Tampering and Scene Changing are off.

In Smart Plan I have set IVS with 3 rules. The tripwires and Intrusion are working fine. Detecting a ghuman.

Smart Motion Detection is disabled:

What am I missing in this?

Something else, when I login the camera, I see that EPTZ working, but it doesn't show in my DHI-NVR5208 recorder via SmartPSS, Recorder web interface or DMSS app (Android). Should this be visible in these apps?

First, you should be making changes to the camera from the camera GUI not the NVR.

Second, turn off MD. If using IVS rules you don't use MD or SMD.

EPTZ has to be available on the camera and the NVR, so if your NVR predates when EPTZ became available you won't see it and should then disable it in the camera.

Turn OFF Motion Detection (MD). Its not needed if you are running IVS (AI).
MD is ancient technology that alerts in any change in any pixel. There may be some small specialized need for it but generally speaking its not needed and does exactly what you are seeing, alerts every time the wind blows.

SMD (Smart Motion Detection) is a feeble attempt to layer AI on top of MD. It works better than plain MD, but still has many issues. It ONLY works on top of MD being ON. But it ignores your MD Area and uses the entire scene whether you want to or not.

Shut OFF both MD and SMD and just use IVS

EPTZ only viewable on devices that can recognize it, which SmartPSS, DMSS and your older NVR can not.

I played around again. If I switch off Video Detection>Motion Detection my tripwires are still activated, but my DHI-NVR5208 recorder doesn't record when the tripwire is activated. It will record again the when I switch Motion Detection back on and the tripwires are activated. Plus record all the night insects again.

Can this be a firmware issue?

Not likely.
More a function of not having image settings dialed in, features not set correctly, and expecting too much from the camera.

Need to see images of your scene and settings to know better.

Do the camera Tripwires work in the day? Show us a clip of someone walking through the scene and how the tripwires react
