SmartPSS and DMSS how safe are these? Why are they free?

Hello everyone,

Currently I use smartPSS on desktop and DMSS to our dahua system. The system was setup by a security company but a question I have is.

Why are these programs for free?
How safe are these programs to be on my phone or desktop?
