Hi guys,
I just grabbed two of the mini-dome DS-2CD2542FWD-IS 4MP cam's to replace my 3mp ones.

I did not realise, but the 3mp ones are 4mm and I ordered 2.8mm lens with the 4mp ones! Rats. The FOV is impressive but I'd rather have my pixels back!

I looked on ebay and aliexpress and all the m12's state they are for 3mp. Bit concerned the image quality might be impacted using a 3mp lens on my 4mp cameras. ie. these http://www.aliexpress.com/item/4mm-...ns-M12-mount-CCTV-camera-lens/1951140593.html

Can just swap the lens from my 3mp cams (understanding one is 3mp and the other 4mp)?I guess I can just try it, but the cam's are mounted and it's a bit tricky to change them out while up a ladder...so rather know in advance if that's likely to be an issue.

Fortunately, I had already removed the glue from the lens to adjust the focus...so it's a bit easier to swap them ..but I did dob a big lump of hot melt glue so perhaps not so easy!

I'd still like to sell the 3mp's with 4mm lens so any link's to good quality suitable 4mm m12 lens' on aliexpress or ebay would be appreciated. Not sure if all lens' are the same or if there is some better quality/diff. sensor etc. so would appreciate direct links and guidance.

Thanks!

lens dont care how many MegaPixels the sensor is, for a 1/3 sensor you get a lens that's 1/3 to match

Thanks nayr,
Swapped them and all good though the image is out of focus on the edges of the image. The 2.8mm was sharp edge to edge.

I am a bit disappointed after going to the effort to swap them as it's not produced much noticeable diff in the detail despite fov dropping from 90+ to 77 ( an increase of ~16%).

fwiw, the two lenses appear to be different construction. looks like the 3mp was metal while I think the 4mp one was plastic.
