Stuttering motion on DS Cam mobile app

Hi, not sure if this is appropriate section (or even the right forum!) to ask this question, however I'm scratching my head here a little and need some help...

I have 2 x Hikvision DS-2CD2355FWD-I cameras connected to my Synology Surveillance station. They write to a dedicated 4TB WD Purple drive. I've had them installed and working ok for 2-3 weeks.

Yesterday I noticed when reviewing recorded footage on my iPad using Synology DS Cam app that any motion would jump around. If I walked through the shot I would jump forward, or back, or sometimes both places at once, same with cars driving down the street etc. This is happening on both cameras (front yard and back yard) and is only happening on the one device. If I watch the same video played back on the Windows client or my Android phone it is fine so I don't believe it is the cameras or recordings. If I go back in time and watch videos that were previously ok, they now jump around.

Watching Live View on the DS Cam app is fine, watching Live View using the iVMS-4500 app is fine (on the iPad). If I browse to my NAS from the iPad and watch the recorded video using VLC, it is fine.

I have rebooted everything on the network, uninstalled and reinstalled the DS app, changed resolution, frame rates, bit rates, different time synchronization sources, methods and servers.

The strange thing is that these playbacks of recordings were fine for weeks and started having trouble yesterday.

I have tried with my iPad connected directly to my WiFi at home, tethered to my mobile 4G and over a VPN, all with the same result, so it "seems" to be iPad related, but no idea why or what would have changed. I have also factory reset the iPad and only installed DS Cam, same issue is evident.

Any ideas at all?

edit: looks like there was an app update from 5.0.1 > 5.0.2 in the last few days, so this may actually be the culprit (hopefully)
