So I've recently installed a Swann NVR8580RN and 6x NHD887FN cameras. So far so good, but this is a replacement for a previous 8580 system that bricked itself after a couple of months, so I'm wary.

Both the NVR and cameras say there are firmware updates available. My question is whether I should, and if so is it possible to backup (or find an archive of) the existing firmware so I can rollback if the update turns out to be garbage?

NVR is currently on 8.1.0-20220412. Update I can find at Swann seems to be same version but dated 20221109 (N7XXX_V220926V220921V221025V221109V220926V221013V221102V220926V220926 to be exact).

Cams are currently on V27.45.7.1.220719. Update I can find at Swann is V27.54.7.1.230522

Anyone have any experience, good or bad, with these updates?
Anyone have the old firmware or know where there are archives?
Any other advice?

I would say given your experience of bricking one after a few months, don't update it unless it is KNOWN by the release notes to fix a problem you are experiencing..

Too many times, like several per week, we get someone here that posts because they bricked their device with a hardware update.

And many manufacturers are preventing folks from loading up an older version. So you might be stuck with an update that breaks something you were using or brick it.

Many (maybe most) of us don't update if the system is doing what we want it to do. Too many issues we have seen to risk it.
