Looking to install a home security system.

I live in a two story house. Suburban neighborhood. Not much distance between each house.

Front of house overlooks a fairly busy street, back of house has grass area, pool and then canyon.

There is a front entry gate centered on the house, with fencing on each side, and then driveway gates on each side of the property. Behind the gate there is semi - circular driveway then the house.

The front entry gate already has a built in buzzer with camera and code entry pad. Camera sux, and is only good to see who buzzes.

If facing the house the garage is on the left. Front door in the middle.

I was thinking of putting up a PTZ camera on the roof overhang on the left side of house (side of garage).

A bullet cam on roof overhang over center of house facing down and towards gate entrance, and another bullet cam on right side of house facing towards other driveway gate.

In the back, was thinking of two bullet cams on overlooking the pool. The other overlooking the other side of back yard.

The was think of dome camera on overhang near front door entrance.

I think that gives me the appropriate coverage of my house.

The question is what cameras to use.

I see good things on the forum about the 2mp Starlight cameras, but how does that compare to the 12mp IPC-HFW81230E-Z.

Same with the PTZ 2MP Starlight or 4K SD6AE830V-HNI.

And, obviously same with the dome cameras, 2 MP starlight or 12MP .

I'm open to other suggestions.

Lighting conditions for dome camera are the best at night, with lights on at the house.

There is some ambient street lights, and other lights available at night, but no motion controlled flood lights etc.

I am willing to spend up to 4-5k for a system that will last me for the next 10 years +.

Thanks in advance

Pictures will help get recomendations. Without seeing property i's hard to say what would or wouldn't work.

Look at turrets for outdoor use over standard domes. They will use matrix IR wich will provide a more even nighttime IR image. Domes still leverage the older traditional IR halo rings.

Don't get hung up on more megapixels is better. Read this article to understand a little more. Camera megapixels: Why more isn't always better (Smartphones Unlocked)

Depending on end number of cameras your budget is great and should allow anything you want with some left over. I can tell you you'll want to upgrade though before 10 years. This technology has been making a lot of advancements in recent years and I don't see this slowing down. Manufactures are starting to leverage better image sensors for nighttime images and as those become available people will want to adopt them for obvious reasons. Shoot for a little smaller budget and plan to get new toys in 3-5 years :-)

I'll take some when I get home and post later. Thx
